Robinhood's Surge in Cryptocurrency: Executives Sell Shares Amid Legal and Technical Oversight

Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD) Chief Legal Officer Daniel Gallagher Jr. sold 10,000 shares of common stock under a 10b5-1 trading plan established in August 2025, generating approximately $748,000 in proceeds. Following this transaction, his direct holdings declined to about $34.5 million, according to public filings.

On March 5, Chief Technology Officer Jeffrey Tsvi Pinner sold roughly 5,000 shares on the open market, as part of a trading plan set up in November 2024, reducing his direct stake from around 35,000 shares to under 30,000 shares.

Earlier, on March 1, Gallagher saw a significant increase in his common-stock holdings due to the vesting of restricted stock units (RSUs). However, the company withheld a substantial portion of those shares to cover tax obligations. Robinhood clarified that these withheld shares were not sold in the open market but were instead net-settled.

Robinhood’s shares have experienced volatility recently after fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 revenues fell short of market expectations. Following the company’s February 2026 earnings release, the stock briefly dropped by about 10%. Management has outlined plans to sustain revenue growth and profitability in 2026 by expanding into new businesses, including options trading, prediction markets, tokenization, and AI-based tools.

Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Robinhood is an online brokerage and financial services firm known for its commission-free trading platform for stocks, ETFs, options, and cryptocurrencies. Since going public on the Nasdaq, the company has grown on the back of increased cryptocurrency interest and trading activity. Founded in 2013, Robinhood has become emblematic of retail-investor-focused trading platforms and was added to the S&P 500 index in 2025, marking its entry among leading U.S. growth stocks.
