Smurfit Kappa, Packaging Giant Surges Over 2 Trillion Won in One Day

Shares of Smurfit Westrock PLC (SW) jumped 7.77% on the New York Stock Exchange today, closing at $42.28. Its market capitalization rose to about $22.1 billion (roughly 29 trillion won), marking a one-day gain of approximately $1.8 billion (mid-2 trillion won).

In its February investor update, the company highlighted its growth story by unveiling a medium-term plan and capital allocation strategy aimed at generating $7 billion in adjusted EBITDA and $14 billion in free cash flow by 2030. A recent global survey also named Smurfit Westrock one of the “World’s Most Admired Companies,” further enhancing its reputation as a leading packaging provider.

Formed in July 2024 through the merger of Ireland’s Smurfit Kappa and U.S.-based WestRock, Smurfit Westrock is headquartered in Dublin. As a global leader in corrugated boxes and paper packaging, it is recognized as one of the industry’s largest players, leveraging increased demand for sustainable packaging and the synergies realized from the merger.
