Meta COO Javier Olivan Sells Company Shares Worth Hundreds of Millions Amid AI Investment

Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) disclosed that on April 13 and 20, 2026, Chief Operating Officer Javier Olivan sold several thousand shares of Meta Class A common stock in multiple transactions under a pre-established Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, generating approximately $3.5 million in cash (roughly KRW 5.2 billion). While Olivan disposed of shares from his direct holdings as well as stakes held through multiple LLCs and his family revocable trust, he still retains tens of thousands of Meta shares. On May 4, the company entered into its fifth supplemental indenture to issue six series of unsecured senior notes maturing between 2031 and 2066, totaling $25 billion (about KRW 38 trillion).

Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

Recently, Meta announced it will reduce its workforce by roughly 8,000 employees—around 10% of its global headcount—with layoffs beginning May 20, and will freeze hiring for 6,000 roles, ostensibly to free up capital for AI infrastructure investment. At the same time, the company is both restructuring its cost base and ramping up major AI expenditures, exemplified by a multibillion-dollar cloud contract with Amazon Web Services to use Graviton5 CPU chips over several years.

Meta Platforms, Inc. is a U.S. Big Tech company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads and Meta Quest. It has recently repositioned itself as an AI-centric platform, prominently featuring its Meta AI assistant built on the in-house generative AI model “Muse Spark.” Spanish executive Javier Olivan has served as COO since 2022, acting as one of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s closest lieutenants overseeing advertising, infrastructure and core products. According to the latest SEC filings, despite his recent share sales, Olivan continues to hold a significant stake in the company.
