Tesla CFO Retains Over 20,000 Shares After Vesting and Exercising Options While Selling Some

Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja disclosed that on May 13 he exercised 3,000 stock options and immediately sold them at roughly $450 per share—approximately 690,000 KRW—to cover the exercise price and related tax liabilities.

On June 5, about 6,500 Restricted Stock Units vested and converted into common shares. On June 8, Taneja sold around 2,600 of those shares at an average price of $402 each, generating approximately $1.05 million (around 1.6 billion KRW) in proceeds. He continues to hold more than 20,000 shares directly, along with indirect interests through trusts and unvested RSUs.

These transactions were executed under a pre-established Rule 10b5-1 trading plan and Tesla’s regular vesting and withholding framework, as part of the CFO’s overall compensation package.

Separately, Tesla recently received approval to further roll out its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. Beginning June 10, eligible customers will receive an over-the-air update, a move that has fueled subscription growth expectations and contributed to significant stock price volatility around the $400 mark.

In its Q1 2026 earnings released on April 22, Tesla reported non-GAAP earnings per share slightly above market forecasts and year-over-year revenue growth of about 16%, although total revenue fell modestly short of consensus estimates.

Headquartered in Texas, Tesla is a leading electric vehicle and energy storage and generation solutions company. It has expanded its global EV market presence through the Model Y, its energy business, and autonomous driving software.

Vaibhav Taneja joined Tesla in 2017 to lead accounting and finance. He was named Chief Accounting Officer in 2019 and promoted to CFO in 2023, reporting to CEO Elon Musk and overseeing major investments and overall capital structure management.
